Getting Started with TutorBunch

Everything you need to know to get the most out of the platform

Set your display name

Go to your profile and make sure your name appears exactly as you want students to see it. For privacy, we recommend using your first name and last initial only (e.g. Sarah T.).

Set your availability (Most important)

Without availability set, students cannot book you. Log in, go to your profile, and add the days and times you are available to teach each week. You can update this at any time.

Connect your bank account

Set up your payout account via Stripe so you can receive payment for completed lessons. Payouts are processed automatically after each lesson.

Complete your profile

Add a clear, professional photo, write a compelling bio about your teaching approach, and confirm your subjects and levels are correct. A complete profile receives significantly more booking requests.

Tips for a great bio: mention your qualifications, your teaching style, and what kind of students you work best with.

Accept booking requests

When a student sends you a booking request, you'll receive a notification. Review the request and accept or decline. Accepted requests allow the student to complete their booking and payment.

Note: Respond to requests promptly. Students may contact other tutors if they don't hear back quickly.

Conduct your lesson via LessonSpace

All lessons take place on LessonSpace, our dedicated online learning environment. A link to your session will appear on your dashboard before each lesson.

Sessions are recorded automatically for safeguarding and student review purposes. Recordings are deleted after 90 days.

Reminder: All communication with students must happen through TutorBunch. Do not share personal contact details.

Tutor FAQs

When do I get paid?
Earnings from completed lessons are added to your TutorBunch balance. You can request a withdrawal from your earnings dashboard, or set up automatic payouts via Stripe Connect.
What commission does TutorBunch take?
TutorBunch charges a service fee on top of your set rate. The exact percentage depends on your badge level. You always receive your stated hourly rate in full.
Can I cancel a lesson?
You can cancel a lesson, but please give at least 24 hours notice. Repeated last-minute cancellations may affect your badge level and visibility on the platform.
How do I move up badge levels?
Badge levels (Rising Star, Tried & Tested, Elite) are awarded by the TutorBunch team based on your lesson count, reviews, and platform conduct.
What if a student is under 16?
A parent or guardian must be linked to the student's account. You may see an age indicator on the student's profile. All safeguarding rules apply -- ensure a parent is present or within reach during lessons with minors.
Can I teach group lessons?
Yes. Group lessons can be set up by the TutorBunch team. Contact us if you want to offer group sessions.

Complete your profile

Add a photo, confirm your subjects and level, and add any notes about your learning goals. Tutors review your profile before accepting a booking request.

Find a tutor

Browse the tutor directory and filter by subject, grade level, price, and availability. All tutors have been verified with an Enhanced DBS check.

Tip: Look at badge levels. Rising Stars are newer tutors at lower rates. Elite tutors have the most experience and reviews.

Send a booking request

On a tutor's profile, click "Request to Book". The tutor will review your profile and accept or decline your request. You'll be notified by email when they respond.

Complete your booking

Once the tutor accepts, you'll be able to select a date and time from their availability and complete payment through the platform.

Join your lesson via LessonSpace

A link to your lesson will appear on your dashboard before your session. Make sure you're in a quiet space with a stable internet connection.

Your lesson is recorded and available to review afterwards. Recordings are deleted after 90 days.

Leave a review

After your lesson, you'll receive a prompt to leave a review for your tutor. Reviews help other students find the right tutor and help tutors improve.

What happens if I need to cancel?
Cancellations made more than 24 hours before a lesson receive a full refund. Cancellations within 24 hours receive a 50% refund.
Can I message a tutor before booking?
Yes. You can send a message to any tutor through their profile before making a booking request.
Are all tutors verified?
Yes. All tutors complete ID verification and an Enhanced DBS check before their profile goes live on TutorBunch.
What if I'm under 18?
Students aged 13-17 need a parent or guardian account linked. If you are under 13, your parent or guardian must register on your behalf.
How do I access my lesson recording?
Lesson recordings are available from your dashboard after the session ends. Recordings are stored for 90 days.
What is LessonSpace?
LessonSpace is our dedicated online classroom. It's a secure, browser-based platform designed specifically for tutoring. You don't need to download anything.

Set up your child's account

From your parent dashboard, go to Child Accounts and complete your child's profile. Add their email address so they can receive lesson notifications directly.

Find a tutor

Browse the tutor directory on behalf of your child. All tutors are ID verified and hold a valid Enhanced DBS check.

Tip: Filter by subject, level, and price. You can message a tutor directly before sending a booking request.

Send a booking request

Send a booking request on your child's behalf. The tutor will accept or decline and you'll be notified by email.

Complete payment

Once the tutor accepts, select a lesson time and complete payment. All payments are processed securely through Stripe.

Note: Payments appear on your statement as TutorBunch, operated by Knowledge Privileged Ltd.

Monitor your child's activity

From your dashboard you can view your child's messages with tutors, upcoming bookings, and lesson history in real time. All in read-only mode for oversight.

Safeguarding: If you have any concerns about a message or interaction, use the Report a Concern button or contact us directly.

Parent FAQs

Can I sit in on my child's lessons?
Yes, and for children under 16 we actively encourage a parent or responsible adult to be within auditory range during sessions.
Is my child's data safe?
Yes. We comply with UK GDPR and the Age-Appropriate Design Code. We do not share or sell personal data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What if I want to report a concern?
You can use the Report a Concern button on any page, contact us at office@tutorbunch.com, or in an emergency call 999.
How do refunds work?

Can I add more than one child?
Yes. From your parent dashboard, go to Child Accounts and click "Add another child".
Are tutors background checked?
Yes. All tutors complete ID verification via Yoti and hold a valid Enhanced DBS check before their profile goes live.

Why does the price I see include more than the tutor's rate?
The price shown is the full Lesson Fee — it already includes a small service fee on top of the tutor's own rate, which helps us run the platform, keep it safe, and support tutors. There's nothing extra to pay at checkout — the price you see is exactly what you'll be charged.
If I cancel a lesson, do I get a refund?
Yes. Cancel 24 hours or more before your lesson and you'll get a full refund automatically. Cancel less than 24 hours before, and you'll get a 50% refund. If you simply don't show up without cancelling, no refund applies, though your tutor may offer to reschedule at their discretion.
How long does a refund take to arrive?
Refunds are processed automatically and usually appear back on your card within a few business days, depending on your bank.
Tutors & Badges
What do the badges (Rising Star, Elite, etc.) mean?
Badges help you understand the type of tutor you're looking at — for example, Rising Star tutors show strong potential, while Elite tutors have a proven track record of excellent results. Badges don't affect price at all — every tutor's price is based purely on the rate they've set.
Are all tutors background-checked?
Tutors go through an application and approval process before appearing on the platform. You won't see a tutor's profile listed publicly until they've been approved.
Lessons & Booking
Can I try a tutor before committing to paid lessons?
Many tutors offer a free 15-minute trial session, shown on their booking page if available. This is a great way to see if their teaching style is a good fit before booking a full paid lesson.
Where do lessons actually take place?
All lessons happen inside our own secure, dedicated online learning space — you don't need Zoom, Skype, or any other app. A link to join is provided automatically once your booking is confirmed.
Can I watch a lesson back afterwards?
Yes — lessons are recorded, and you can access the recording from your profile under "My Lessons" for 90 days after the lesson. After that, recordings are no longer available, so it's worth watching back anything important sooner rather than later.
Messaging & Safety
Why was my message hidden or flagged?
For everyone's safety, our system automatically flags messages that contain things like phone numbers, email addresses, or mentions of other apps (WhatsApp, Zoom, etc.), since all communication and payment needs to stay on the platform. A flagged message is reviewed by our team — if it's a false flag, it'll be restored.
I'm uncomfortable with something a tutor said or did — what do I do?
Use the "Report a Concern" button on your profile page. It goes straight and confidentially to our admin team, who'll review it as a priority.
Can tutors see my contact details?
No — your contact information stays private. All communication happens securely through our own messaging system, not via email or phone.
Referrals
How does the referral program work?
Use your unique referral link (found on your profile) to invite a friend. Once they create a brand new account using your link and complete 5 paid lessons, you'll both receive £25 credit to use toward future lessons. Free trial sessions don't count toward the 5 lessons, and credit expires 3 months after it's awarded.
